Modu-Heroes | Aaron & Ben

March 26, 2020

Modu-Loc is lucky enough to employ some truly special people. In our “Modu-Heroes” series, we have been sharing real-life examples of employees from across the organization who have gone above and beyond in a time of need. This is another great story about some Modu-Loc team members who stepped up to help someone in distress.

Fence Guys Aaron Caruana and Ben Ardis, from our Kelowna depot, arrived at work in early December for an average day. They were scheduled to remove some fence from a site in Merritt, B.C. To get to their destination, Aaron and Ben needed to go through a mountain pass. Routes like these can be dangerous for drivers who are not cautious, but experienced drivers like Aaron know how to navigate them.

It was getting dark by the time the guys had finished their removal and were on their way back. The temperature was dropping and black ice started to form on the roads. They were travelling at a slow speed, exercising proper caution. After all, the roads were hazardous, and they had a full truck and trailer load of fence.

While driving, they were passed by a Ford F350 pickup that was going at least 100 kilometres per hour. Aaron and Ben were surprised that this vehicle was going so fast, given the road conditions. They were right to be wary. About 3 kilometres later, they found the same F350 in a ditch.

Aaron and Ben immediately pulled over to help the driver out of the ditch. Scrambling down into the ditch, they could hear the driver – a man appearing to be in his late 60’s – complaining about a sore back. Ben instructed the driver to stay where put while they called for help. However, the man insisted on following them back to the side of the road.

Thankfully, the driver accepted their offer to bring him to the hospital, where he was reunited with his wife. The driver was assessed and later released, lucky to be alive.

Had Ben and Aaron not stopped to assist the driver, he may have found himself stranded for hours without any help. If his injury had worsened, the situation could have been even more critical. Luckily, these guys are quick on their feet and, without hesitation, were able to take initiative and help out a stranger in need.

Thank you to Ben and Aaron for being good Samaritans. This was a great example of Modu-Loc’s core values, and we’re grateful to have Ben and Aaron on our team!
