Are you ready for Canada 150?

2017 promises to be a year of larger-than-life festivities as Canadians commemorate the 150th anniversary of Confederation. With tourism numbers expected to increase and ample funding allowing events across the country to bump up their budgets and expand their programming, there will be a greater demand placed on event suppliers next year. This means it will be critical for event planners to get organized – and do it fast!

Festivals and events in Ottawa should pay especially close attention, as the city has a full year of exciting programming planned and is anticipating an additional 1.75 million tourists in 2017. In addition to competing against other festivals to secure funding and supplier-provided services, Ottawa 2017 events will also need to plan for larger crowds. So how can you prepare for all of the added challenges Canada 150 will bring?

First of all, start planning early. It should come as no surprise that suppliers are already being inundated with requests for Canada 150! Here at Modu-Loc, we have already booked several events for next year, and we are expecting a much greater demand for fence due to increased attendance at our customer events. To avoid dealing with supply shortages, get your supplier orders in as early as possible.

The earlier you place your orders, the more flexibility you will receive on pricing. This is always true, but will be especially crucial in 2017. Some suppliers will hit you with higher pricing when they know that you are in a bind and they are your last option due to time constraints or supply shortages. Given the higher demand that event suppliers will be experiencing due to Canada 150, you can avoid overpaying for services just by engaging your suppliers sooner rather than later.

Finally, rely on those supplier relationships and let your vendors be the partners they should be! If you’re working with the right suppliers, then they should know their craft and be willing and able to guide you as you prepare for higher attendance levels and new challenges. Next year is not the right time to test out an unfamiliar or discount supplier! With all of the extra stress being placed on event organizers preparing for Canada’s year-long birthday bash, you don’t want to be babysitting your vendors or worse, have one of them drop the ball right before your event.

Plan ahead, get your orders in early to avoid disappointment and inflated prices, and depend on suppliers you trust to ensure a fabulous and successful 2017 event. So, are you ready for Canada 150? We are, and we’d love to help with your next event!
